General Information

  • What is RockFest?
    RockFest is an annual music competition. Our categories include drums, vocals, contemporary piano, classical piano, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, violin, ukulele, teens band, and adults band.

  • Who can participate in RockFest?
    Anyone can participate, regardless of age, skill level, or nationality.

  • Can I get PAJSK marks for joining RockFest?
    Since our application in 2023, we have been informed that RockFest is NOT eligible for PAJSK marks due to the nature of its registration process. For more information, please visit zekolah.com/pajsk.

  • How many rounds are there?
    There are 2 rounds for each category. Participants may choose to compete in the Preliminary Rounds via digital video submission or live performance. Up to 10 finalists will compete in person at the Live Finals.

  • How can I get the latest updates?

Registration & Participation

  • How do I register for the competition?
    Registration must be completed online. The link will be available on our Linktree.

  • Can I participate in more than one category?
    Yes, participants may enter multiple categories.

  • Can I participate in both the Digital and Live Preliminary Rounds?
    Yes, participants may participate in both rounds.

  • What does the registration fee cover?
    The registration fee includes participation in the Preliminary Round, a Participation Pack, and eligibility to join the Live Finals if selected. Each Participation Pack includes:

    • Digital Certificate of Participation

    • Online Marking Report

    • Exclusive T-Shirt and Medal

    • Printed Award Certificate for High Scorers

    • Additional goodies from our Partners

  • Can I make changes to my registration after submission?
    Yes, but an administrative fee of RM50 applies for corrections after submission.
    Changes after the closing date may not be accepted.

  • What happens if I register for the wrong category?
    We can reassign you to the correct category with an RM50 administrative fee.

  • What are the payment options available?
    For local transactions, we accept cash deposit and online banking.
    For international transactions, we accept online banking, Wise, and PayPal.

  • Are there any additional charges for late registration?
    Yes. If your registration is accepted, a 50% surcharge will apply.

  • Will I get a refund if I withdraw from the competition?
    No refunds are given after payment submission.

Competition Rules

  • Is there a time limit for my performance?
    Yes. Performances for all categories are capped at 6 minutes, except for Cutie Pies, which is capped at 2 minutes. Within the time limit given, participants must perform 1 piece, and 1 piece only. Medleys are not permitted, and will result in a disqualification without notice.

  • Can I use a backing track in my performance?
    Yes, but it must be a minus-one track without a click.

  • Can I alter my performance piece in any way?
    For the Graded category, participants are not allowed to modify their backing tracks or rearrange their exam pieces. Failure to comply will result in a disqualification without notice.

Live Performance

  • What should I bring to the venue?
    Your NRIC/passport, your instrument, and any additional equipment necessary.

  • Will there be a soundcheck before my performance?
    Yes, all performers will be given time for setup and soundcheck. The time limit is allocated based on category. For more details, please refer to our Rules & Regulations.

  • Will there be a rehearsal before the competition?
    No, there will only be a short briefing and soundcheck (if applicable).

  • Can I perform with an accompanist?
    For solo categories, only violinists may have a piano accompanist.

  • Are effects pedals allowed?
    For guitar performances, participants may use an effects pedal provided that they brings their own.

  • What is a Day Pass? How do I purchase it?
    All non-finalists are required to have a Day Pass if they wish to spectate a Live Preliminary Round or the Live Finals. Children aged 3 and below do not need a Day Pass. Day passes need to be purchased online from a third-party vendor, and the link will be available on our Linktree.

Video Submission

  • Where should I upload my video?
    Your video can be uploaded to either Facebook or YouTube. Please ensure that the privacy settings of your video is set to Public or Unlisted.
     

  • What should I put in the description?
    Your video description should include your full name as per NRIC/passport, the title of your piece, the category you are participating in, and the required hashtags. For more details, please refer to our Rules & Regulations.

  • What are the technical requirements for my video?
    The video must be clear (720p minimum) with raw audio recording. Pre-recording and audio mixing is strictly prohibited. Any form of audio or video editing will lead to disqualification.

  • What happens if my video does not meet the submission guidelines?
    You will be disqualified without notice.

Adjudication & Results

  • How will I be judged? What is the marking criteria?
    Adjudication is based 100% on your performance. For more info, visit this page.

  • Can I request feedback from the adjudicators?
    For Preliminary Rounds, an online Marking Report will be sent to you via email.
    Marking Reports are not provided for the Cutie Pies category.

  • How will I know if I’ve been selected for the Live Finals?
    The results will be announced on social media. We will also reach out to you via email.

Prizes & Certificates

  • Will all participants receive a certificate?
    Yes, all participants will receive a digital Certificate of Participation via email.

  • How do I collect my Participation Pack?
    Participation Packs will be distributed at the Live Finals.
    If you’re unable to attend, shipping is available for an additional fee.

  • What awards do finalists receive?
    Among the Top 10 finalists, awards are distributed as follows:

    • 1st Place – Gold Award (Trophy & Printed Certificate)

    • 2nd Place – Silver Award (Trophy & Printed Certificate)

    • 3rd Place – Bronze Award (Trophy & Printed Certificate)

    • 4th & 5th Places – Rock Award (Trophy & Printed Certificate)

    • 6th–10th Places – Excellence Award (Printed Certificate only)

  • Can I request a reprint of my certificate?
    Yes, replacement certificates are available for RM50 per reprint.
